Emerson Hospital Recognized for Top Patient Care from Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services

7/31/2023

Emerson Hospital was again nationally recognized for its outstanding commitment to patient care and safety. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently awarded Emerson its highest five-star rating. Emerson is just one of twelve hospitals in Massachusetts to earn this top score. Only 15 percent of the 4,654 hospitals rated nationwide earned five-star status.

CMS annually assigns star ratings to hospitals nationwide based on performance across five quality categories: safety, patient experience, timely and effective care, readmission, and mortality after a heart attack or pneumonia. The ratings show how well each hospital performed on these quality measures compared with other hospitals in the country.

“Providing patients with outstanding quality and safety is our primary job,” said Christine Schuster, RN, MBA, Emerson Health president and CEO. “We put patients at the center of everything we do and every decision we make and are proud to be recognized for our commitment to excellence. I commend our team for upholding the highest standards of care.”

CMS star ratings help patients compare hospitals regionally and nationally and choose the best for their care. For information about the CMS star rating, visit medicare.gov/hospitalcompare. To see all Emerson Health's awards and accreditations, visit emersonhealth.org/awards.
