Quit Smoking Support Group Begins January 16

1/5/17: Freedom from Smoking Clinics Offered at Emerson Hospital

Quitting smoking is not as easy as it sounds. It often takes multiple attempts for people to quit, and the most effective strategies employ the support of others who are working to stop smoking too.  Starting January 16, Emerson Hospital will be hosting a Freedom from Smoking® group clinic to help people learn how to overcome tobacco addictions and enjoy the benefits of better health, extra money and healthier relationships.

The Freedom from Smoking clinics were established by the American Lung Association and are proven to be successful to help people stop smoking.  Those who use the program are six times more likely to be smoke-free one year later than those who try to quit on their own.  Over eight sessions, participants will learn about lifestyle changes that make quitting easier, medicines that can help stop smoking, preparing for Quit Day, managing stress, avoiding weight gain, developing a new self image and how to stay smoke-free.  The clinics provide a supportive setting for adults to work through the quitting process.

Claire Rindenello, RRT, Pulmonary Rehabilitation Coordinator at Emerson Hospital, will lead the program.  For more than 20 years, Claire has worked with people who have lung disease and is well-known for her compassionate approach to helping smokers quit the addiction.

The Freedom from Smoking clinics will meet for eight sessions from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at Emerson Hospital, on Mondays from January 16 – February 27, with one additional class on Wednesday, February 8. Classes will be held at the Emerson Hospital McPhillips conference room, located off of the main hallway of the hospital at 133 Old Road to Nine Acre Corner in Concord.  The cost to participate is $100. Smokers age 18 and over who are interested in quitting are welcome to participate.

For more information, call Claire Rindenello at 978-287-3715. To register, visit www.emersonwellness.org and find the Freedom from Smoking class in the alphabetized list under the Classes and Programs menu.
