Midwifery

Midwifery

Emerson Hospital’s certified nurse-midwives provide personalized care for women, focusing on prenatal, labor, delivery, and postpartum care, gynecologic exams, family planning services, and menopause management.  Midwifery is ideal for women who desire an individualized, less-routine approach to care. Some midwifery patients choose a natural approach to pregnancy and childbirth, and others choose an epidural or other pain medication. The nurse-midwife supports each woman in the choice she makes for her experience.

Pregnant women who choose Emerson’s nurse-midwives deliver at Emerson’s new Clough Birthing Center, which offers a warm and homelike environment for mother and baby, including beautiful private rooms following delivery.

An integral part of the medical team, Emerson’s nurse-midwives works closely with Emerson obstetrician/gynecologists if more intensive care is needed.

Emerson's nurse-midwives are part of AFA OB/GYN, a practice with locations in Concord, Westford, and Leominster.

Yasmeen Bruckner, CNM, MSN
A certified nurse-midwife, Ms. Bruckner received her master’s degree in nursing from Yale University School of Nursing and completed her midwifery training at Yale-New Haven Hospital and Mount Auburn Hospital. Her clinical interests include obstetrics, well-woman care, adolescent gynecology and family planning. She sees patients at the Concord location.

Sherriann Perivolotis, CNM
Prior to becoming a nurse-midwife, Ms. Perivolotis was a labor and delivery nurse at Emerson Hospital for ten years. She has a BSN from Rivier College and an MSN from the University of Cincinnati. She is a member of the American College of Nurse Midwives, the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses and Sigma Theta Tau. Ms. Perivolotis is the busy mother of six children, including a set of triplets. She sees patients in Concord, Westford and Leominster.

Stephanie Sandwich, CNM
While volunteering for a reproductive health hotline, Ms. Sandwich developed an interest in becoming a doula. Through her doula training she discovered that midwifery was to be her true passion, and this led her to obtaining her Master of Nursing from Oregon Health & Science University. In addition to being a board-certified nurse midwife, Ms. Sandwich is also a member of the American College of Nurse Midwives. Her clinical interests include family planning, LGBTQ reproductive health, and vaginal birth after cesarean.
