Emerson Hospital offers the area’s only Special Care (Level 2A) Nursery. Directed by a Massachusetts General Hospital neonatologist, the Special Care Nursery is equipped and staffed to care for newborns who require intensive monitoring or medical care.
Skilled staff members monitor and respond to sudden changes in a baby’s condition. In addition, a board-certified pediatrician is on-duty at the hospital at all times to provide immediate attention. The Special Care Nursery also stabilizes and manages babies born at Emerson who may require transfer to a Level 3 facility. Many of these very ill infants return to Emerson to grow and gain strength in our Special Care Nursery.
Emerson’s Special Care Nursery provides advanced medical care and monitoring for:
- Premature infants
- Infants with low birth weight
- Babies with medical conditions that require more special care
- Twins and triplets
