Rehabilitation and Transitional Care Unit
The Emerson Rehabilitation and Transitional Care Unit (TCU) is the ideal environment for patients who require a short rehabilitation stay and are motivated to participate in an individualized treatment plan.
The TCU provides 24-hour skilled nursing care and a full range of rehabilitation services. As one of only two TCUs in Massachusetts located within an acute care hospital, Emerson's unit has an impressive track record of delivering high-quality care to patients after an acute hospitalization or from the emergency department, their doctor’s office, or home if they meet criteria.
The TCU accepts patients from any acute care hospital. Referrals should be directed to our Nurse Liaison at 1-978-287-3620.
During a short stay on the TCU, patients receive skilled nursing and rehabilitative care, regain strength, and relearn skills for daily living.
Support for a Wide Range of Conditions
The TCU is well known for orthopedic rehabilitation care. However, the unit also cares for patients with a variety of conditions, including those who require complex medical and post-surgical care. Info for Referring Physicians
A Proven Record of High-Quality Care
The TCU receives consistently high patient satisfaction scores; 99 percent of patients would refer family or friends who require a rehab stay to Emerson’s TCU. We have consistently received a perfect deficiency-free score on our annual, unannounced Department of Public Health surveys and tri-annual Joint Commission surveys. See the Patient Experience
TO QUALIFY FOR ADMISSION
Patients must meet specific medical, rehabilitation and insurance criteria.
They must be capable of benefiting from
rehabilitative care and also be motivated
to participate in a program designed to
help them return home.
Emerson’s TCU accepts most health insurance plans, including Medicare. Under certain circumstances, patients may be admitted to the TCU without a prior hospital stay.
