Surgery
Why Choose Emerson?
Our surgical weight loss patients know that Emerson’s program combines surgical experience with personal, supportive care. The surgical expertise is key, but so is the compassion of the program’s staff, who are thoroughly committed to our patients’ success. As a result, area residents who have decided to pursue weight loss surgery are choosing Emerson’s program. They are impressed by its success rate and safety profile, and they appreciate the program’s overall philosophy. In addition, they are familiar with Emerson’s reputation as an outstanding community hospital known for providing high quality surgical services and nursing care.
Emerson Hospital has developed the Surgical Weight Loss Program in order to help individuals with morbid (Class III) obesity. The program is comprehensive: it begins with an evaluation by our team of specialists who will help you determine if weight loss surgery is right for you, help you throughout the surgical process and assist you long after the surgery is complete.
The steps in our process:
1. Free information session. Come, listen and ask questions. Information sessions are held at Emerson generally the second Wednesday of every month at 6:00 pm.
2. Complete a confidential questionnaire. You will receive this at the information session along with other educational materials.
3. Call for an appointment. Once you have decided to take the next step, you will come to Emerson to meet the Surgical Weight Loss Program team
4. Meet with our program coordinator, psychologist and dietitian. This evaluation step helps determine if weight loss surgery is right for you.
5. Schedule your surgery. At this point, most individuals are eager to get a date for their surgery.
6. Ongoing support from the Surgical Weight Loss team. The year following surgery is when individuals lose most of their desired weight.
7. Support group meetings. Many patients find this forum helps them to stay positive.
