Ophthalmology

Emerson Hospital’s ophthalmology staff provide comprehensive surgical care for adults and children. Today many procedures can be performed with lasers and typically do not require a hospital stay. The majority of cataract surgeries are performed with topical anesthesia and often require no stitches. Emerson’s experienced ophthalmology staff use state-of-the-art equipment such as the newest lasers, fluorescein angiography, non-invasive retinal and optic nerve imaging studies, visual fields and corneal topography. Several of them are skilled at performing LASIK, including IntraLase and WaveFront technology, and PRK (photoreactive keratectomy). They offer treatment for the following conditions:

  • Cataracts
  • Corneal disease
  • Diabetic retinopathy
  • Glaucoma
  • Lazy eye
  • Macular degeneration
  • Nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism
  • Retinal disease
  • Strabismus in children and adults
