For a Concord family, Father’s Day was made extra special this year as they welcomed their second child, a daughter, born at Emerson Hospital. Dahlia Marangoly was born to Diane and George Marangoly on Sunday, June 21 at 3:42 p.m., weighing in at eight pounds and measuring 21 inches long. She joins big sister Azalea who is nearly five years old.
“It is definitely amazing to have a baby born on Father's Day, I don't have words to express it," says Dahlia's father, George. "We weren't expecting her to arrive until July, it's overwhelming and unbelievable. She is the best gift anyone could ask for." To make her birth date extra sweet, George was born on Mother's Day and he really wanted to have a baby on Father's Day. Dahlia shares the same birth date as her maternal great grandmother.
Dahlia arrived early, she was due on July fifth. The night before she was born her parents attended a wedding where they spent a lot of time on the dance floor. On Father's Day they were planning to go to a gathering with friends from church - which was also supposed to be Diane's surprise baby shower - but she went into labor instead.
“Emerson has been wonderful, everyone here has been very accommodating, it has been an awesome experience," explains Diane. "I was able to have a VBAC (vaginal birth after C-section) and everything went very smoothly. I held Dahlia on my chest right away for about an hour after she was born.”
Dahlia was delivered by Christina Thomas, MD of Concord OB/GYN Associates who was covering for Diane's regular obstetrician, Ingrid Balcomb, MD, FACOG of AFA OB/GYN Associates.
