Solomon Sheffield, Supervisor of Security at Emerson Hospital, was recently named the 2016 Most Valuable Person of the Year by colleagues and leaders of the hospital. He was honored for his commitment to going above and beyond his role to ensure the hospital is safe for patients, employees, volunteers and visitors. Solomon began working on the security team at Emerson in 2013, and was soon promoted to Supervisor of Security.
Emerson’s Security team works to ensure that the hospital community is always safe, and that patients are secure and protected on the hospital floors. The team is involved with preparations for natural disasters and other emergency situations and works closely with the local police and fire departments to maintain the highest standards of safety training for Emerson’s employees.
“We are very fortunate to have Solomon leading Security at Emerson,” said Christine Schuster, President and CEO of Emerson Hospital. “He is a wonderful person and a hard worker who helps the Emerson community prepare for and remain calm during stressful situations. Solomon is very deserving of the Most Valuable Person of the Year award as so many people rely on him to keep our community safe.”
Solomon greets everyone who comes to the hospital with a warm hello and a bright smile. He not only knows nearly every employee, volunteer, patient and visitor by name, but he also knows something special about each of them. Before joining Emerson, Solomon spent thirty-one years working in the Jacksonville, Florida Sheriff’s Office in a specialized unit to keep neighborhoods safe. He was active in the military reserves for nearly thirty years as a member of the Florida National Guard. Solomon says his favorite part of his work at Emerson is the knowledge that he is doing something good. “When our Security team helps someone out, everyone feels like a family,” he explains.
