Based on the success of its long-standing art gallery in the main hallway of Emerson Hospital, the health system has opened a new gallery located at Emerson’s Center for Rehabilitative and Sports Therapies in Concord. The new gallery, known as the Concord Rehab Center Art Gallery, is presented by the Auxiliary of Emerson Hospital. It will feature rotating exhibits by local artists and photographers. Each image is for sale with proceeds supporting Emerson’s patient care programs and services.
The Gallery is open to the public for viewing during regular rehab center hours and is located at 310 Baker Avenue in Concord, a short drive down Route 2 West from Emerson Hospital. “We are very excited to have an art gallery for patients, visitors and staff to enjoy,” said Terrie Enis, Director of Rehabilitation, Emerson Hospital. “Since the gallery opened, our pediatric therapists engage children in color and object identification as a game as they walk down the hall. The gallery provides a truly wonderful mix of art and therapy.”
The first exhibit of the new gallery features the work of nature photographer Neil Tischler of Acton. Neil has been fascinated by nature since his early childhood in rural upstate New York and has been active in photography since he was a teenager. He uses only a hand-held digital camera and natural ambient light to take his photographs. Flashes of light, contrasting colors, or sudden motions attract his eye towards his subjects in their natural settings.
Neil’s photographs of his subjects are astonishing for capturing the images so quickly and naturally, and for revealing stunning detail of his subjects. For example, a visit to the Gallery will show you Neil’s photo of a tufted titmouse flaunting beautiful dark lashes framing its eyes. You can also enjoy a close-up photo of dragonfly wings aptly titled “Tiffany Wings,” as the intricate detail of the wings resembles Tiffany glass. His photographs will be on display in the gallery through January 3, 2017. “I hope that Emerson rehab center visitors, patients, and staff enjoy the beauty of nature displayed in my photographs and find the art soothing,” says Neil.
