Emerson Hospital recently opened its new state-of-the-art infusion center for patients with cancer and other conditions requiring intravenous (IV) therapies. Known as the Naka Infusion Center and named in memory of Patricia Neilon Naka, a local resident, the center was designed for the highest-quality patient experience. Many infusion treatments can take several hours to administer and patients often receive infusions on a regular, sometimes long-term basis. With this in mind, the center was created to provide a spacious, soothing environment for optimal patient comfort and privacy. The Center is located on the main campus of Emerson Hospital in Concord, Mass.
“When patients require infusion treatments to treat cancer or other diseases, they are now cared for by our expert clinical team in the beautiful new Naka Infusion Center,” said Christine Schuster, President and CEO, Emerson Hospital. “In the soothing ambience of the Center, patients receive their infusions with the high-quality care, convenience and personal touch that Emerson is known for.”
Conditions that require infusion therapy are continually expanding based on new medications for treating cancer, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis and Crohn’s colitis, with more treatments for these and other diseases expected in the near future.
At 5,900 square feet, more than triple the size of the former Naka Infusion Center, the clinic provides advanced care for patients undergoing infusion chemotherapy, those with blood disorders, requiring IV antibiotics or certain pain management medications. The center offers comfortable treatment bays, a calming space with windows and skylights providing natural light and beautiful artwork with a theme of flowering trees. A patient and family lounge area includes a comfortable sitting area with a refreshment center, book library, and a flat screen television. Some patients prefer privacy while others prefer to talk with patients and visitors during treatment.
The flexible design of the center offers the opportunity for both. Patients in the Naka Infusion Center receive a variety of amenities that Emerson is known for. These include access to a social worker and a nutritionist, patient and caregiver support groups and education programs, music therapy, complimentary Reiki massage therapy, acupuncture, chaplaincy visits, refreshments, free parking and convenient hours. Comfort Kits provided by the Auxiliary of Emerson Hospital that include items such as blankets, magazines and lotions, are also available to patients.
