Emerson Hospital Launches Community Benefit Awards Program

18 Non-Profits that Strengthen Community’s Health Were Awarded 

Emerson Hospital is pleased to announce the recipients of its first Community Benefit Awards. Based on a comprehensive application and review process, eighteen non-profit organizations throughout the health system’s service area were awarded up to $5,000 each to expand their programs that serve the physical and mental health needs of the community. The organizations were chosen based on Emerson’s most recent Community Health Needs Assessment and address at least one of the following populations or health issues: At-risk adolescents, older adults, cancer prevention and care, mental health or domestic violence. 
 
“These organizations are working hard to improve the health of their communities through impactful programs and education,” said Christine Gallery, Senior Vice President Planning, Emerson Hospital. “A vital part of Emerson’s mission is to serve the health needs of everyone in the region. We are pleased to partner with local organizations that are intrinsic to our mission and are making a deeply positive impact on people’s lives.” 

The following organizations received a Community Benefit Award from Emerson Hospital: 
•    Acton Health Department to help children and families manage anxiety disorders (Acton)
•    Center for Parents and Teachers to improve youth behavioral health through parent education (Concord)
•    Children’s Melanoma Prevention Foundation to offer skin cancer education programs for elementary students (Norwell)
•    Concord Prison Outreach to provide a public health speaker series for incarcerated people (Concord)
•    Concord Promise to foster healthy technology use for tweens and teens (Concord)
•    Discovery Museum to provide reduced admission rates (Acton)
•    Gaining Ground to grow and donate organic produce for emergency food programs (Concord)
•    HOPE Sudbury to provide emergency funding during times of crisis (Sudbury)
•    Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School for youth substance abuse education and prevention programs (Lincoln-Sudbury) 
•    Littleton Community Farm to enhance its garden fresh food donation program (Littleton)
•    Littleton Elder and Human Services to offer dementia care and caregiver stress reduction programs (Littleton)
•    Live for Liv 10th Anniversary Ride/Run for Liv to raise awareness about domestic violence (Westford) 
•    Minuteman Senior Services to offer healthy living workshops for caregivers and adults with chronic conditions (Bedford)
•    Open Table for its Supporting Seniors Program which provides meals and groceries to older adults (Maynard) 
•    Reuben Hoar Library building project to provide a safe space for people of all ages to engage in learning, programming and socialization (Littleton)
•    Virginia Thurston Healing Garden for support services for those with cancer (Harvard) 
•    Westford Council on Aging to increase transportation options and provide an Aging Mastery program (Westford) 
•    Westford Parent Connection to support the 2020 speaker series on youth mental health (Westford)
