The Center for Weight Loss at Emerson Hospital was honored recently as a Blue Distinction Center Plus for bariatric surgery by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. Only providers that meet rigorous quality, safety, and efficiency standards receive this designation. The team at the Center for Weight Loss works closely with patients who suffer from obesity and related co-morbidities to help them regain their lives through transformational care. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, more people understand how obesity affects their lives, and are turning to Emerson’s Center for help.
“We are pleased to be recognized for outstanding bariatric surgery care by Blue Cross Blue Shield,” said David Lautz, MD, FACS, FASMBS, bariatric surgeon and director of Emerson’s Center for Weight Loss. “Patient safety is our highest priority. Our team is focused on providing expert, safe, and individualized care before, during, and long after patients have surgery.”
Emerson’s Center for Weight Loss provides a highly-qualified team that includes board-certified surgeons, a medical director, dietitian, mental health practitioner, and physician assistants. Patients experience personalized, individual care and support throughout their pre-surgery, surgery, and post-surgery journey. Minimally-invasive surgical options include gastric bypass, gastric banding, and sleeve gastrectomy. The program is designated by the American College of Surgeons as an MBSAQIP-Accredited Comprehensive Center.

About Blue Distinction Centers
Blue Distinction Centers (BDC) met overall quality measures, developed with input from the medical community. A Local Blue Plan may require additional criteria for providers located in its own service area; for details, contact your Local Blue Plan. Blue Distinction Centers+ (BDC+) also met cost measures that address consumers’ need for affordable healthcare. Each provider’s cost of care is evaluated using data from its Local Blue Plan. Providers in CA, ID, NY, PA, and WA may lie in two Local Blue Plans’ areas, resulting in two evaluations for cost of care; and their own Local Blue Plans decide whether one or both cost of care evaluation(s) must meet BDC+ national criteria. National criteria for BDC and BDC+ are displayed on www.bcbs.com. Individual outcomes may vary. For details on a provider’s in-network status or your own policy’s coverage, contact your Local Blue Plan and ask your provider before making an appointment. Neither Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association nor any Blue Plans are responsible for noncovered charges or other losses or damages resulting from Blue Distinction or other provider finder information or care received from Blue Distinction or other providers.
