For a Maynard family, Father’s Day was made extra special this year as they welcomed their first child, a daughter, born at Emerson Hospital. Emma Jane Herdeg was born to Gina and Brian Herdeg on Sunday, June 21 at 1:54 p.m., weighing in at six pounds, seven ounces and measuring 20 inches long.
“She is the best Father’s Day present ever. I can’t believe I’m a Dad,” said new father Brian. Emma is the first grandchild in the family and both sets of grandparents had a chance to meet her shortly after she was born to celebrate Father’s Day all together. Her parents did not imagine having a Father’s Day baby until Gina went into labor on Sunday morning. “It’s really fun having our daughter born on Father’s Day,” said Brian.
Her parents chose to deliver Emma at the Emerson Hospital Clough Birthing Center because of the hospital’s reputation. “It was a no brainer that we’d have her at Emerson, it’s a great hospital,” explained Brian. Gina and her siblings grew up in Acton and they were all born at Emerson. Emerson was her family’s hospital for a variety of medical needs while they were growing up.
“Right after Emma was born I got to hold her. The skin-to-skin bonding was great – my care team put her on my chest seconds after she was born, they took the monitors off quickly and I got to keep her on my chest for a while,” said new mom Gina.
Born before her July third due date, Emma was delivered by Christina Thomas, MD of Concord OB/GYN Associates.
