Margo’s Gals & Guys - An Acton Business Teaming up to Support Emerson Hospital’s 5k Run~Walk for Cancer

5/18/2015

Peggy Nazzaro is owner of Margo’s Hair and Body Design in Acton, and a long-time supporter of cancer patients at Emerson Hospital.  A resident of Littleton, she is also a Corporator of Emerson. This year, Peggy has gone the extra mile and formed a team, Margo’s Gals & Guys, to participate in the Emerson Hospital 5k Run~Walk for Cancer on Saturday, May 30.  Margo’s staff, clients, their family and friends come together for this event.

Having had several family members and clients go through cancer treatment at Emerson, Margo’s staff is well-acquainted with the cancer center.  Margo’s appreciates the caring relationships the oncology doctors have with their patients and family.  All staff at Margo’s appreciate the little things about the cancer center, such as the jigsaw puzzles in the patient waiting room, making it easy for quiet and comfortable interaction, and the skylight to let in natural light and give a boost to people’s energy and feelings.

In addition to forming their team for the 2015 Run~Walk for Cancer, Margo’s does many other things to support cancer care at Emerson Hospital.  Each year, the salon raises money so that they can purchase and donate Pashmina shawls to patients as they begin their treatment.  Margo’s team organizes several fundraising events each year to raise funds to support cancer care.  The staff, clients, and family all pitch in to help.  Peggy says that some of the events raise hundreds of dollars, while other events raise thousands.  She feels that even the smaller fundraising events are important, as a little bit goes a long way.  Peggy knows that through the years, her team and clients, “have made a difference in individual people’s lives.”

In addition to fundraising events, Margo’s Too Wig Salon, located in Margo’s Hair Design, works with cancer patients when they come to get a wig as they face losing their hair due to their oncology treatments.  Margo’s Too customizes the wigs according to their clients’ needs and comfort, and is especially attentive to clients’ feelings as they work together.  Margo’s Hair Design has had young girls come in to have their long hair cut and donated so that wigs can be made for cancer patients. Margo’s is sure to let these girls know they are taking important steps to being helpful to others.

Margo’s encourages businesses in Acton to focus on something they feel passionate about and get involved to support that cause.  Peggy says that, “a team is people working together for the same objective; just by walking together, you’ve made a difference.”
