The Emerson Wellness Center for Mind and Body is offering unique Essentrics classes starting the week of April 10. Essentrics is a full-body workout that rapidly changes the shape of your body through a dynamic combination of strengthening and stretching. The classes are scientifically designed to rebalance the entire muscular skeleton, strengthen and stretch all of our muscles, aid in weight loss, keep joints healthy and increase range of motion while protecting against injury. There are two Essentrics classes available this spring: Essentrics Gentle and Essentrics Stretch and Tone.
Essentrics Gentle is a full-body program designed to help you slowly build strength, flexibility and mobility. The class is designed for those who are new to or are returning to exercise, have slightly-limited mobility, and athletes looking to stretch. A diverse music playlist accompanies each routine creating a fun, positive environment. The class meets on Mondays from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m., Tuesdays, 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. or 5:30 – 6:30 p.m., or Thursdays, 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.
Essentrics Stretch and Tone is a full-body workout that strengthens and lengthens your muscles simultaneously, resulting in longer, leaner, stronger muscles without using weights or equipment. This is a moderately-paced class ideal for beginners or those who are active, healthy and fully mobile. This class meets on Mondays from 11:45 a.m. – 12:45 p.m., Tuesdays from 11:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. or 6:45 p.m. – 7:45 p.m., or Thursdays from 1:15 p.m. – 2:15 p.m.
Taught by Severina Gates who is the first fully certified Level 4 Essentrics instructor in Massachusetts, and Lauren Mayhew, a Level 3 Essentrics instructor and health and wellness coach, Essentrics draws on the flowing movements of tai chi to create health and balance, the strengthening theories of ballet to create long, lean, flexible muscles, and the healing principles of physiotherapy to create a pain-free body. Participants will leave feeling restored, relaxed, rebalanced and strong. Attendees will meet at the Emerson Wellness Center for Mind and Body, located at 310 Baker Avenue in Concord, near the new Residence Inn hotel. Free parking is available in the office park. The cost is $90 for a 5-week session or $20 for drop-in.
