For the second year in a row, Emerson Hospital was named a Most Wired Hospital by the American Hospital Association’s Health Forum. This year’s honor is based on an extensive survey that was completed by 2,158 hospitals across the country. Just 461 hospitals received the distinction, including nine in Massachusetts. The survey examined how hospitals leverage information technology to improve performance in the areas of quality and safety, clinical integration, infrastructure and business and administrative management.
In the last several years, Emerson has deployed cutting-edge technologies in many areas of the health system to improve both inpatient and outpatient care, safety and service. The technologies Emerson has in place today are at the forefront of most community hospitals in the country.
“Having access to the latest technologies enables our clinicians to provide the highest quality and safest care possible for all of our patients, said James Street, MD, PhD, Chair, Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at Emerson Hospital. “Emerson is at the cutting edge in having such advanced technologies in its operating suites, including a state-of-the-art Surgical Information System which enables us to have the most real-time information about our patients’ health before, during and after their surgeries. The combination of excellent clinical teams and the latest in healthcare technologies makes Emerson the community hospital of choice for surgical patients.”
The benefits of Emerson’s technologies are many and include: Automated medication processes to ensure patient safety, real-time nurse rounding and service recovery on many of its floors, clinicians having access to patients’ medical information at anytime, anywhere, electronic communication boards so loved ones know where a patient is throughout their surgical process, the ability to reserve an urgent care exam time right from a phone or device, the use of telemedicine by some of its clinicians who conduct qualifying patient visits through video and web technologies, and a rapid supply ordering system.
Christine Schuster, President and CEO of Emerson Hospital said, “I am extremely proud to have Emerson named a Most Wired Hospital for the second year in a row. As a leading community hospital, we are constantly seeking opportunities to use the latest technologies to provide a safer and even higher quality health care experience to our patients. The technologies are an important part of our ability to deliver personalized, compassionate care to people in our community and are a core reason why we have received top scores in recent safety and patient satisfaction ratings.”
