CONCORD, Mass., May 15, 2015 – Logan Waldon Chieffo, known as Wally, surprised his parents when he arrived on Mother’s Day night at Emerson Hospital. Due on May 9, Wally made his entrance into the world at 8:41 p.m., on May 14, in time for his family to celebrate their first Mother’s Day. His parents, Michelle and Logan Chieffo of Bolton, did not think they would have a baby born on Mother’s Day. However, Michelle’s mother had a dream that she delivered a baby girl on Mother’s Day – and half of the dream came true. Wally’s parents did not choose to find out their baby’s gender until he arrived.
Born weighing 8 pounds, 6 ounces, and measuring 21 inches long, Wally has four grandparents and great-grandparents, including two grandmothers and three great-grandmothers, who were all thrilled he arrived on such a special day. His parents chose Logan based on his father’s name and Wally because it was his great-grandfather’s name. The new parents recognize he has a strong Boston-themed name and they are already planning to take Wally to Red Sox games to meet Wally the mascot.
Wally was delivered by Christina Thomas, MD of Concord OB/GYN, Michelle’s obstetrics practice. Michelle and Logan chose to deliver Wally at the Emerson Hospital Clough Birthing Center because of its reputation for excellent maternity care.
“We feel very lucky and special that our first baby was born on Mother’s Day,” said Michelle Chieffo. “We will always remember the day he was born. Everyone has been so wonderful – all of the nurses and Dr. Thomas – I was able to hold Wally on my chest for a few hours right after delivery. Emerson has been the perfect place to have our baby.”
Parents and newborns receive some memorable perks during their stay at Emerson. As Michelle explains, “We knew about the dessert cart for families to enjoy each day during their stay. What we didn’t know about are the beautiful hand-made knit hats that Emerson volunteers make for each baby. Wally’s hat is very special, he loves it, we all do.” During his first family photo session, Wally was sleeping soundly in his father’s arms wearing his hat.
