Emerson Health earned another “A” Hospital Safety Score from The Leapfrog Group, an organization dedicated to promoting healthcare quality and safety. The public uses the results to make informed decisions about where to go for hospital care.
This highest safety grade is one of several national patient care awards that Emerson received recently. Emerson is the only hospital in Massachusetts honored with the 2023 Patient Safety Excellence Award and Outstanding Patient Experience Award from Healthgrades, and is the only hospital in Massachusetts named a Top Hospital by The Leapfrog Group. Further, The Leapfrog Group and money.com named Emerson’s Center for Weight Loss a Best Hospital for Bariatric Surgery — an honor that only one other hospital in the state received.
“These awards reflect the deep commitment to our patients and their safety in everything we do at Emerson,” said Christine Schuster, RN, MBA, president and CEO of Emerson Health. “Our experienced staff and physicians throughout our entire health system care for patients like family, which is an important reason why people choose Emerson for their care.”
Leapfrog calculates the Hospital Safety Score every fall and spring under the guidance of The Leapfrog Group’s Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, using publicly available data from more than 2,900 acute care hospitals nationwide on medical and medication accuracy, injuries, and infections. The letter grade reflects a hospital's overall performance. This spring, just 29 percent of hospitals in the country received an A, and Emerson is one of only nine hospitals in Massachusetts to receive an A every cycle since fall 2020.
